Mintlaw's Macduff Shellfish acquires Stornoway factory

Macduff Shellfish has concluded its acquisition of Young's Seafood factory in Stornoway on Lewis for an undisclosed sum.

The plant's 33 employees have transferred to the Aberdeenshire company.

The factory processes langoustines and also removes shells from prawns used to make scampi.

The deal follows Young's decision to move work from Stornoway to a factory in Annan in Dumfries and Galloway.

Based in Mintlaw near Peterhead, Macduff Shellfish processes shellfish and exports to Europe and the Far East as well as supplying the UK market.

Last year it purchased the UK's largest scallop fishing fleet, Scott Trawlers.
