A hillwalker is being treated for serious injuries after sliding about 800ft (250 metres) from a cliff edge in the Southern Cairngorms.

The 25-year-old man fell while walking with two other people in the area of Coire Sputan Dearg at 15:30 on Sunday.

Police Scotland said mountain rescue teams located him at about 18:30 and brought him out of the area by stretcher in "challenging conditions".

He was airlifted to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary by an RAF rescue helicopter.

The group from England had been planning to spend a couple of days in the mountains.
