Plans for an oyster farm in Loch Moidart near Castle Tioram have been refused permission by Highland councillors.

Developer Measan Na Mara Ltd proposed four plots of oyster trestles in the south channel of the loch.

The company said the scheme would boost the local economy and create up to 12 jobs.

Members of the local authority's south planning committee rejected the scheme by seven votes to six.

Lochaber councillor Andrew Baxter, who moved the motion to reject the scheme, said the industrial scale of the operation was inappropriate for the area.

He said it could impact on the environment and local tourism.
