Radon gas works completed at five Highland schools

Work to reduce radon gas levels at five schools in the Highlands has been completed.

High levels of the gas were detected at Helmsdale, Halkirk and Glenurquhart primaries and Kilchuimen Academy and primary in February.

Increased levels were also recorded at Glen Urquhart High School in Drumnadrochit.

Work to tackle the gas at the high school has also been completed but regular monitoring is to continue.

Radon is a naturally-occurring gas but, being radioactive, it can cause cancer.

NHS Highland said in February the risks to staff and pupils were "very low".
