Woman cleared of causing biker's death in Inverness

A woman has been found not guilty of causing the death of a biker on a road in Inverness last July.

Barbara Ardell, of Atlanta, Georgia, had been on holiday when she was involved in a crash with Paul Todd.

Mr Todd, 57, of Conon Bridge, was taken to the city's Raigmore Hospital following the collision on Culcabock Road but died a short time later.

During a five-day trial at Inverness Sheriff Court, witnesses said he had been travelling above the speed limit.

The jury took 30 minutes to come to its verdict. Mrs Ardell, 63, burst into tears and shouted: "Praise the Lord."

Outside court, she said: "I want to thank God and my family and friends for the comfort and support I have received during this long and difficult ordeal.

"But I also want to express my deepest sympathy for the family of Mr Todd who have suffered a terrible loss."
