A forest near Inverness is to be brought into community ownership with help from a £740,000 grant from the Scottish Land Fund.

Aigas Forest involves about 706 acres (286 ha).

Forestry Commission Scotland has agreed to sell it to Aigas Community Forest under the National Forest Land Scheme.

The Scottish Land Fund is backed by the Scottish government, Highlands and Islands Enterprise and Big Lottery Scotland.

Environment Minister Aileen McLeod has welcomed the community buyout.
