Police hands over garage death inquiry to HSE

An investigation into the death of a young mechanic after an explosion at a garage has been handed over by police to the Health and Safety Executive.

Martyn Massie was flown to hospital by air ambulance helicopter after the incident at Pitmachie, Aberdeenshire, on 18 June.

It is understood the 24-year-old had suffered head injuries. He died in hospital.

Grampian Police confirmed the case had been handed to the HSE.

The HSE said it now had primacy in the inquiry.

Mr Massie was earlier described as a trusted and hardworking employee.
