An electrician who caused thousands of pounds of damage to a cinema after being sacked when he returned from a pub break has been jailed.

Liam Stewart, 23, of Dundee, admitted causing malicious damage to Aberdeen's Cineworld in Union Square last year.

Stewart caused an estimated £11,000 of damage, which cost £27,000 to repair.

Sheriff Douglas Cusine, jailing him for 32 months at Aberdeen Sheriff Court, said: "I regard a custodial sentence as inevitable."

The court heard the married father-of-one was currently serving a sentence for his involvement as a drug courier.

The Cineworld venue was damaged last September, shortly before its official opening in October.
