Posthumous honour for former RGU principal Mike Pittilo

The late former principal of Aberdeen's Robert Gordon University (RGU) is to receive a posthumous honorary award.

Prof Mike Pittilo MBE passed away suddenly aged 55 in February last year.

The Honorary Award of Doctor of Science will be conferred by Sir Ian Wood, the university chancellor, at a special ceremony on Thursday.

Prof Pittilo's wife will accept the award. Prof Pittilo joined the university in 2005. He was awarded an MBE in 2009 for services to health.

An exhibition of his photography follows the award ceremony.

The exhibits will be sold in aid of cancer charities.

German-born academic Prof Ferdinand von Prondzynski, who spent 10 years as president of Dublin City University, was named as Prof Pittilo's successor.
