Mintlaw pedestrian killed in A952 car crash

A 42-year-old man has died after being hit by a car while walking along a road in Aberdeenshire.

The crash happened on the A952 Mintlaw to Toll of Birness road, about one mile south of Mintlaw, at about 2150 BST on Sunday.

The man, believed to be from the Mintlaw area, died at the scene.

The 71-year-old car driver was uninjured but his passenger, a 70-year-old woman, was taken to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary with slight injuries.

Insp Scott Mann, of Grampian Police road policing unit, said: "We believe that the man who died was a pedestrian who was walking alone at the scene.

"The road has been closed for five hours to allow a detailed examination of the scene."

He appealed for witnesses to the crash to come forward.
