Stornoway 'harbour fall' victim named as Aultbea man

A man has died after he reportedly fell into a harbour on the Isle of Lewis.

A rescue attempt by coastguard, lifeboat, police and ambulance crews was carried out at Stornoway's inner harbour shortly after midnight.

John MacKinnon, 38, of Aultbea, Wester Ross, was pulled from the water and taken to the Western Isles Hospital, where his death was confirmed.

Police are investigating the incident and a report will be submitted to the procurator fiscal at Stornoway.
