Fifty jobs had been put at risk after Smiths of Peterhead was placed in administration

A historic Aberdeenshire textile firm which went into administration in February has been sold.

One factory in Mintlaw operated by Smiths of Peterhead will stay open, but its weaving centre in Boddam will close with the loss of about 20 jobs.

The family firm - which has traded in woollens and knitwear for 193 years - supplies brands including Gucci.

Administrators Begbies Traynor said Touch Interactive would operate the spinning business in Mintlaw.

The business has had a presence in Scotland since 1818 and traded as Thomas Smith & Co prior to 2005.
