Teenager in court over Peterhead McDonald's fire

A teenager has appeared in court in connection with a fire at a Peterhead branch of McDonald's which caused almost £100,000 worth of damage.

Dale Mitchell, 18, of Irvine, was charged with theft by housebreaking and wilful fireraising.

Mr Mitchell made no plea or declaration and was released on bail at Peterhead Sheriff Court.

The fire broke out at the McDonald's restaurant in the early hours of Friday 19 August.

Pc Craig Dalton, of Grampian Police, earlier said: "The fire caused significant damage to the restaurant and could have had devastating consequences."
