Businessman Hugh Eadie fined for overtaking ambulance

A businessman who overtook an ambulance on its way to an emergency in Aberdeenshire has been fined.

Hugh Eadie, 56, the operations director of windows and conservatory firm CR Smith, overtook the ambulance which was going at 80mph.

It was responding to an emergency on the B979 Netherley road at Stonehaven in August last year.

Eadie was fined £900 and received eight penalty points at Stonehaven Sheriff Court.

'Error of judgement'

He admitted speeding, driving too closely behind and overtaking the ambulance.

Defence agent Jeffrey Aitken said Eadie had been away on business all week and was returning to his home in Netherley.

He said: "As soon as he overtook the ambulance he realised it was on an emergency call.

"He realises it's a stupid thing to do. It was an error of judgement on his part."
