An outdoor swimming pool in Aberdeenshire will remain closed after an 11-year-old boy was found unconscious in the water.

Stonehaven's Olympic-sized salt-water filled pool was closed after the incident last Thursday afternoon.

The injured boy was taken to hospital in Aberdeen before being transferred to a specialist unit in Edinburgh.

A spokesman for Aberdeenshire Council said that while the inquiry continued the pool would remain closed.

He added: "The indoor swimming pool at the nearby Stonehaven Leisure Centre was due to close today for the summer but will now remain open until further notice, to ensure that leisure facilities are still available for local people and visitors."
