'William Wallace' sword stabbed at police

A man who repeatedly stabbed a four foot William Wallace replica sword at police through a letterbox has been sentenced to community service.

Daniel Campbell brandished the imitation weapon at officers trying to execute a warrant at his Aberdeen flat.

Aberdeen Sheriff Court heard police sealed off Jute Street for six hours as negotiators tried to resolve the situation in March.

Campbell was ordered to undertake a 100 hour community pay back order.

The court was told that the three foot blade was thrust through the letterbox with a stabbing motion at officers.

Campbell's defence agent said that his client could remember nothing of the incident.

He said Campbell was interested in Scottish history and had bought the sword on the internet.
