Appeal after man's body discovered near Aberdeen community centre

Police are trying to find out the last known movements of a man who died after being found unconscious at the back of an Aberdeen community centre.

The death of John McDonald, who was 56, is being treating as unexplained.

Mr McDonald was found at the back of Cummings Park Community Centre in Northfield at about 08:00.

He was taken to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary where he later died. Police asked anyone who saw Mr McDonald on Thursday or Friday to contact them.

Det Insp Richie Guild said: "We know Mr McDonald was in a local licensed premises on Thursday evening.

"We would like to establish his movements during Thursday and until he was found on Friday morning."

Mr McDonald, who lived locally, was last seen wearing a green anorak over a black padded "puffa" style jacket with a hood.

He was also wearing blue jeans and dark-coloured shoes.

Det Insp Guild said: "It is too early to comment on the cause of death at this stage, however I would appeal for anyone who heard or saw anything suspicious in the Cummings Park area of Northfield, or indeed saw John McDonald during Thursday or Friday morning to contact police as soon as possible."
