Thieving Aberdeen carer Gladys Williamson jailed for six months

A carer who stole thousands of pounds from a 72-year-old man she was looking after has been jailed for six months.

Gladys Williamson stole £7,750 pounds from the bank account of the man, who later died.

Aberdeen Sheriff Court heard that she had access to his bank card so she could buy clothes and other essential items.

Williamson, 56, admitted stealing the money between September 2010 and March 2011.

Defence agent Neil McRobert said: "It was a serious breach of trust. She is ashamed by what she has done."

Sheriff Peter Hammond said: "This is a really serious offence."

Williamson was suspended by Aberdeen City Council when the case came to light, then lost her job.
