Shetland police investigate serious assault in Lerwick

Police officers have started an investigation into a serious assault in Shetland.

The victim of the assault, a man, is being treated in hospital. Police have not revealed details of his injuries.

The incident took place in Burns Walk in the centre of Lerwick between 02:00 and 02:45 on Saturday.

A forensic tent has been set up and an area close to the Clydesdale Bank has been cordoned off. Police have appealed for witnesses to contact them.
