Relatives of a 20-year-old Aberdeenshire man missing for several days have described his disappearance as a "nightmare".

Shaun Ritchie was last seen with friends at a remote woodland area near Strichen sometime on Friday night into Saturday morning.

So far a major search has failed to find him.

The family said in a statement: "With every passing day we're becoming more and more worried about Shaun."

The statement went on: "We all love him dearly and the last six days have been a nightmare, for all his family and friends, not knowing where he is.

"If anyone knows anything about where Shaun is, if they saw him last Friday night or since then, we'd ask them please, please get in touch with the police and give them any information you may have."

RAF and police mountain rescue teams, a police helicopter, divers, specialist searchers and dog handlers joined the search.

Mr Ritchie was wearing grey jeans, a white t-shirt and a grey hooded top when he was last seen.
