Man hit by lorry on A96 named as Oskars Zenka

A man has been killed on the A96 near Kintore in Aberdeenshire after being hit by a lorry.

He has been named by Police Scotland as Oskars Zenka, a 27-year-old Latvian who was living in the Inverurie area.

The accident happened on the Inverurie to Aberdeen Road at Tavelty junction at 02:20.

The 31-year-old driver of the lorry was uninjured in the accident. Police have appealed for any witnesses to contact them.

Sgt David Pirie, of Police Scotland, said: "Losing a loved one in such a tragic way is extremely harrowing and our thoughts are with Mr Zenka's family and friends at this difficult time.

"Enquiries are at an early stage and I urge anyone with information, or who may have seen a pedestrian or the lorry travelling northbound on that stretch of road, to come forward as soon as possible."
