The theft of a purse from an 86-year-old woman in Aberdeen has been branded "despicable" by police.

The incident happened in Rosemount Place at about midday on Monday.

Police Scotland want to trace a man described as in his 30s who engaged the woman in conversation shortly before her purse was stolen.

He was about 5ft 10in tall and wearing a dark jacket with black hooded top underneath, purple beanie hat and had a thick scarf around his neck.

Sgt Brian Hutchison said: "This is a despicable theft of a purse from an elderly woman. She was not injured in any way but is understandably upset by the incident."
