A 29-year-old man has died after a crash in Aberdeenshire.

The one-vehicle accident happened southbound on the A90, between Balmedie and Newburgh, at about 07:40.

The driver was taken to the Aberdeen Royal Infirmary, where he was pronounced dead a short time later. Relatives have been informed.

Police Scotland, appealing for witnesses, said the road was closed at the Newburgh junction to allow an investigation.

Sgt Scott Deans said: "I am appealing to any motorists who were on the road around the time of the incident to contact us. In particular, I would ask anyone with a dashcam to check it as the footage may be able to assist our inquiries.

"A man has lost his life and it's imperative we find out how it happened."
