The Vertex financial services group is expanding its operations in Glasgow, creating another 168 jobs in the city.

The group announced last week it was recruiting 200 people to handle customer service for Tesco Bank's mortgage business.

Recruitment for the first phase of the project, which will be based at Atlantic Quay in Glasgow, will start before the end of the year.

First Minister Alex Salmond welcomed the plans.

He said: "I'm delighted that the Vertex Group is expanding its operations in Scotland.

"The creation of 368 new quality finance jobs is great news for Glasgow and a testament to Scotland's reputation for financial services excellence."

The Scottish Government is pumping £1.7m into the proposed centre of excellence in Glasgow's financial services hub, through regional selective assistance (RSA) funding.

The Vertex group is a leading business process outsourcing firm and employs 15,000 people worldwide.
