Renfrewshire engineering company Teknek has launched a major expansion of its operations throughout Asia.

Teknek, which specialises in contact cleaning, exports more than 90% of its equipment overseas.

Its products help manufacturers increase yields and reduce wastage by removing contamination from the production processes.

Sectors served range from electronics to medical, including flat-panel TVs, semi-conductors and fuel cells.

The firm said expansion had been driven by increased demand for Teknek's equipment in Asia.

The company has opened a new office in Seoul, South Korea, and relocated its Asia Pacific headquarters from Yokohama, in Japan, to Shanghai.

Its Taiwan office is being expanded and there will be further significant investment in its Hong Kong production centre.

Managing director Stephen Mitchell said: "This is one of the largest and most ambitious expansion plans ever undertaken in Teknek's 25 year history.

"We are seeing unprecedented demand for our equipment in the region."

He added: "We expect to double our headcount in Asia and it comes on the back of recent expansion in North America and growth at our UK headquarters in Glasgow."
