Aker Solutions signs major office leasing deal in Aberdeen

Norwegian oil services firm Aker Solutions has signed one of Scotland's largest office leasing deals, as part of expansion plans in the UK.

Under the contract, Aker will rent 335,000 sq ft of office space at Aberdeen International Business Park from developer Abstract (Cornwall) Ltd.

Aker is leasing three interlinked buildings for an annual rent of £7.74m over 20 years.

It also has options to extend the lease for three five-year periods.

Abstract (Cornwall) Ltd is a subsidiary of Norwegian investment company Aker ASA, which owns 34.5% of Aker Solutions.

The new complex is already under development and will consist of three interconnected buildings.

It will include a fitness centre with squash courts, catering facilities, a nursery, medical facilities and an auditorium.

The facility is expected to be ready for occupation in the second quarter of next year.

'Long-term investment'

Aker Solutions is among the largest employers in Aberdeen with operations spread across six sites in the city.

David Currie, regional head of Aker Solutions in the UK, said: "This move is a long-term investment for us and underlines our commitment to Aberdeen and our customers in the area.

"The new offices will provide high-quality facilities and enable us to bring the majority of our employees in Aberdeen together in one central location."

The leasing deal completes the first phase of the 40-acre business park development, which is located opposite the entrance to Aberdeen International Airport.

Abstract said it was looking to bring forward the next phases of the business park "at an early stage".

When completed, the park will comprise of about 1,000,000 sq ft of offices, and is likely to include at least one hotel.

Mark Glatman, from Abstract, said: "The position of the Aberdeen International Business Park adjacent to Aberdeen International Airport, the quality of the development and the developing local road infrastructure makes this business park an obvious and logical location for major international companies active in the Aberdeen market."
