A top Ayrshire hotel has been put up for sale, with a price tag of £7m.

The Marine Hotel in Troon has been put on the market by owners The Hotel Collection.

The four-star hotel stands next to the 18th hole of the Royal Troon golf course, which has hosted The Open championship on eight occasions.

Selling agent Colliers International is inviting offers of about £7m for the 89-bedroom hotel, which was built at the turn of the 20th century.

The hotel has undergone refurbishment in recent years and features a swimming pool, health and leisure club and conference centre.

Julian Troup, from Colliers International, said: "The Marine comes with considerable heritage, a strong trading base and platform for future business growth.

"We anticipate considerable interest from our database of UK and international buyers."
