Second Borders General Hospital death probe opens

  • Published

A fatal accident inquiry has opened into the death of a 79-year-old man who died suddenly at Borders General Hospital.

Peter Short of Norham, near Berwick-upon-Tweed, died in May 2008.

The probe follows a separate inquiry into the death of Galashiels grandmother Annie Mercer who died at the same hospital in September 2007.

She had been given the same blood-thinning drug as Mr Short in September 2007.

Sheriff James Farrell, who is presiding over both inquiries at Selkirk Sheriff Court, said he would give a written determination regarding Mrs Mercer at a later date.
