A man accused of sex offences against young girls has been found dead in his home in Galashiels.

Derek Campbell, 51, had failed to appear in Selkirk Sheriff Court on Monday to answer seven charges going back as long as 18 years ago.

A warrant for his arrest was issued and police visited his house in Kenilworth Avenue, where they discovered his body.

Police said the cause of death was being investigated but there were no suspicious circumstances.

Mr Campbell had been charged with indecent behaviour towards three young girls on various occasions between January 1994 and December 2001.

He was also accused of committing a sexual act and supplying cannabis to two of his alleged victims.
