Father and son killed in Borders motorbike crash

A father and his 15-year-old son have been killed in a motorbike crash near Galashiels in the Scottish Borders.

Colin Rafferty, 51, and his son Keir, who was riding as a pillion passenger, were travelling along the A72 when the BMW bike left the road.

No other vehicles were involved in the crash, which happened at about 1730 BST on Friday.

Lothian and Borders Police has appealed for anyone with information about the accident to come forward.

The father and son, who lived in Tweedbank, were coach and player for the under 17's Gala Fairydean Football Club.

The club's website paid tribute to the pair, saying: "As you can imagine the whole of Gala Fairydean are in shock at these events.

"We, players, coaches and committee offer our condolences to his family."

A minute's applause is due to be held in tribute to Mr Rafferty and his son at the club's match against Berwick Rangers Reserves this afternoon.
