Hawick baby death crash woman remains in intensive care

A mother who lost her newborn baby after a crash in the Borders remains in intensive care in hospital.

The woman, understood to be Kirsty Neilson, 26, from Hawick, was on her way to hospital on Monday to have her child when the accident happened.

A car being driven by her partner William Pollock was involved in a two-vehicle crash on the A7 near Hawick.

The baby girl was delivered at Borders General Hospital but died shortly afterwards from her injuries.

Ms Neilson was transferred to Edinburgh's Western General Hospital where she is being treated for serious head and chest injuries.

Her partner was also badly hurt in the accident and had to be cut free from the vehicle.

The incident happened at about 0830 BST on Monday when the Honda Civic the pregnant woman was travelling in was involved in a collision with a Volkswagen Golf.
