The public has been advised to hang up immediately when receiving a call asking for bank details
Members of the public in the Borders have been warned about a phone scam targeting households in the region.
A number of people in the Peebles area have been contacted by a bogus bank worker and asked to provide their account details.
Sgt Eddie Kelly of Lothian and Borders Police said there had been at least 20 incidents in a couple of days.
He said banks would never ask for such information over the phone and anyone receiving a call should hang up.
He advised anyone being targeted to immediately contact their bank branch with details of the incident.
