Villagers decide Hawick Common Ridings ride-out fate

Residents in Denholm in the Borders have voted to allow the Hawick Common Riding ride-out to enter their village.

Fears about anti-social behaviour at last year's event had led some locals to call for a ban on the annual event, which attracted 3,000 people in 2010.

However, villagers voted three-to-one in favour of keeping the ride-out for at least another year.

The ride-out celebrates the capture of an English Flag in 1514 and the custom of riding the marches of common land.
