A man has been arrested in connection with the death of a mother-of-three in Dumfries and Galloway last year.

Wendy Kelly, 32, was found unconscious at a house in the town's Hillview Terrace on 17 May, 2010.

She died later in hospital as the result of a head injury.

The 43-year-old man, from Newton Stewart, is expected to appear at Stranraer Sheriff Court on Monday on charges of culpable homicide and assault.

Dumfries and Galloway Police said the arrest followed a lengthy police inquiry.

Det Insp Mark Hollis said: "The inquiry has been very complex and it has taken a great deal of time and investment to uncover a large amount of very relevant information about Wendy's lifestyle, her movements and the circumstances which led to her death.

"We have been liaising closely with Wendy's family throughout this inquiry to assist them through what must be a very stressful time.

"We are grateful for the patience and support they have given to us, and are also thankful for the support and co-operation of the Newton Stewart public."
