A75 Castle Kennedy crash victim 'critical'

A 20-year-old man is in a critical condition in hospital after a crash on the A75 in Dumfries and Galloway.

The incident, involving a silver Vauxhall Astra and a lorry, happened at about 0710 BST near Castle Kennedy.

Police said the car driver, who was from the area, had been taken to Dumfries Infirmary with "life-threatening injuries".

The 43-year-old lorry driver, who is from outside the region, was not injured in the accident.

The road was closed for several hours and diversions put in place but it has since reopened.

Insp Neil Hewitson, from Dumfries and Galloway Constabulary, said: "Inquiries are still at an early stage, however, we are keen to speak to anyone who saw either of these two vehicles prior to the collision or indeed has any other knowledge concerning the collision."
