Child rapist Peter Ireland dies in prison

A man convicted in 2007 of raping two young girls has died in Peterhead Prison.

The Scottish Prison Service has confirmed that Peter Ireland, 50, died on Monday.

He was jailed for nine years at the High Court in Glasgow after admitting attacking the young girls at addresses in Edinburgh, Wigtownshire and Dumfriesshire.

The abuse started when one of the girls was just three years old.

The death has been reported to the procurator fiscal.
