Robert Burns supper festival enjoys 'amazing' response

Organisers of a new Dumfries festival celebrating the suppers held in honour of Robert Burns have said they were "amazed" by the public response.

The Big Burns Supper featured 80 events covering music, dance, comedy, theatre and art across 40 venues.

The two-day programme kicked off on Friday with an outdoor spectacular on the banks of the River Nith.

Festival Director Graham Main said he had been delighted by the turnout for the curtain-raiser and other events.

"Every one of our venues was completely full," he said.

"So not only did we have advanced tickets we also had people showing up trying to get into venues at the last minute.

"I think the public in Dumfries have got an appetite for this now and I hope we can be the springboard to bring them more culture and shows and comedy."
