Newcastleton crash victim identified

Police have identified a 39-year-old man who died after being struck by a Land Rover while walking along a road in the Borders.

Walter Davidson, of Copshaw Place, Newcastleton, died as a result of the accident at about 22:00 on Monday in his home village.

South Hermitage Street was closed for about six hours while police carried out investigations at the scene.

Lothian and Borders Police have appealed for witnesses to the crash.

A spokesman said: "Officers are still trying to piece together what happened to result in this collision and we are keen to hear from motorists or pedestrians who were in the area at around 10pm on Monday.

"Similarly, anyone with any other information that can aid this inquiry is also asked to come forward."
