Kingholm Quay mud rescue operation saves woman and dog

A woman and her dog have been rescued after getting stuck in mud at Kingholm Quay in Dumfries and Galloway.

Emergency services were called to the incident a few miles south of Dumfries at about 11:30.

The woman had become stuck up to her waist in the marshland in the area while her pet was up to its neck.

Fire fighters used specialist equipment to free them and said she had been lucky the alarm was raised quickly and that the tide had been out at the time.

A statement from Dumfries and Galloway Fire and Rescue Service urged dog walkers to keep their pets on a lead when near water.

It also advised the public to resist going into water or mud to rescue an animal and call the emergency services instead.
