Man charged over Friars Vennel fire in Dumfries

A 27-year-old man has been remanded in custody on a charge of starting a blaze which damaged a Dumfries flat.

Andrew Haigh, said to be of no fixed address, appeared at Dumfries Sheriff Court.

He was on a petition alleging that he wilfully set fire to a pair of curtains resulting in the blaze which damaged the floor and wall of the flat in Friars Vennel on Wednesday.

No plea was made and the case was continued.
