Peebles man jailed over Nutella joke stabbing

A man who stabbed another partygoer after failing to see the funny side of his joke has been jailed for two years.

Scott Happer, 28, took exception when the man handed him nail polish instead of Nutella spread.

He pulled a kitchen knife with a six-inch blade from his trousers, stabbing him twice in the thigh, before adding, "It's not funny now."

Happer, a prisoner in Edinburgh, admitted carrying out the assault at a house in Peebles on 12 March.

Jedburgh Sheriff Court heard his victim suffered two stab wounds which required a total of seven stitches.

Sheriff Donald Corke described the offence as a serious matter for which custody was inevitable.

The two-year jail term was backdated to 13 March.
