Dumfries drivers sought after sex attack

Police are seeking witnesses after a woman was sexually assaulted while walking home from a night out.

The 30-year-old victim had been out with friends in Dumfries town centre on Saturday night.

She left the group to walk home in the early hours and was attacked while walking along the A711 Dalbeattie Road.

Police are particularly keen to speak to the driver of a lorry which was seen in the area at the time and the woman tried to flag down.

The woman left Dumfries town centre and made her way along the Whitesands, over Buccleuch Street Bridge, Galloway Street, Laurieknowe and Castle Douglas Road before reaching the Cargenbridge area where the attack took place.

A police spokesman said the victim has blonde hair and was wearing a dark, off-the-shoulder dress.

As well as the lorry driver who was in the area, police are also keen to speak to another driver - possibly a taxi driver - who stopped and spoke to the woman.
