Criffel illness walker airlifted to hospital

A man has been airlifted to hospital after taking ill close to the summit of Criffel near Dumfries.

The 29-year-old, who had been on his own, was found on Sunday afternoon by other hill walkers who raised the alarm.

The Moffat Mountain Rescue Team was subsequently deployed to stretcher the casualty down below the cloud cover.

He was then loaded into an Navy Rescue helicopter and taken to Dumfries Infirmary.

The man - who had been suffering from chest pains - has not been named.
