Parkgate driver scrambles from car fire

A driver has scrambled clear of a crashed car before it burst into flames on a minor road near Dumfries.

The incident happened near the A701 at Parkgate at about 19:00 on Tuesday.

Police said a Ford Mondeo car flipped over and struck a telegraph pole and damaged a section of dry stone wall.

The 46-year-old driver, from Parkgate village, was able to free himself and clamber clear before fire broke out in the vehicle. The flames were later put out by fire fighters.

A police spokesman said the man was taken to Dumfries Infirmary for cuts and bruises to his back, neck, arm and head.

He was kept in overnight for observation.
