Melrose High Street car crush couple remain critical

A married couple who were crushed against a wall by a reversing car in the Borders remain in a critical condition in hospital.

The 47-year-old man and his wife, aged 42, were walking on Melrose High Street on Friday when the accident happened.

A car mounted the pavement and pinned the couple up against the wall of the George and Abbotsford Hotel.

They were transferred to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary where their condition is described as critical but stable.
