Indecent comment nurse Ysanne Billson suspended

A care home nurse who made indecent comments about an elderly patient has been suspended for six months.

A Nursing and Midwifery Council Panel heard Ysanne Billson "failed to respect the dignity" of a pensioner at the Cargenholm Care Centre near Dumfries.

A second charge of failing to check on another elderly resident who had been experiencing health difficulties was found not proven.

The charges dated back to May 2010, Ms Billson resigned shortly afterwards.

Ms Billson, 57, of Lockerbie, did not attend the hearing and sought to have it adjourned due to ongoing health problems.

That move was denied by the three-man NMC panel.

It heard evidence from the care home's manager who said members of staff had raised concerns about Ms Billson's comments concerning an elderly man.

An internal investigation was launched and the nurse, who previously had a 37-year unblemished record, was suspended from her duties.

She resigned from her position four weeks later in June 2010.

A formal complaint was made to police by the patient's family but all charges against Ms Billson were eventually dropped.

She has now been suspended from nursing for a period of six months.
