Duo admit Dumfries store robbery

Two men involved in a knifepoint robbery at a Dumfries store have been remanded in custody.

Gregg Newlands, 35, and William Trainor, 24, both of Dumfries, admitted assaulting and robbing two employees at Lochfield Stores in January.

They both admitted committing the offence on bail and Newlands pled guilty to brandishing a knife.

They were remanded in custody for reports on whether the Sheriff Court or High Court should pass sentence.

The robbery was captured on CCTV which was replayed to Sheriff Mhairi McTaggart.

The court was told that none of the money taken - nearly £700 - had been recovered and both women had been affected by the incident, one of them leaving her job because of it.

Trainor also admitted a separate charge of severely injuring and permanently disfiguring two other men by hitting them on the head with bottles.

The pair will be sentenced on 25 June.
