Burns statue square upgrade repairs required
Repair work is needed on a £1m town centre upgrade which is approaching completion in Dumfries.
A roof panel has shattered in each of the two bus shelters which have been installed as part of the project. They have been closed to the public.
CCTV footage is being checked to see if they have been vandalised but initial inspections suggest that was not the case.
Dumfries and Galloway Council said repairs would be carried out next week.
The local authority has already apologised to traders and residents after works around the statue missed two completion deadlines.
The main section of the overhaul was completed last week.
However, problems at two bus stances in the area have now been discovered.
A council spokesman said: "One roof panel in each of the shelters has shattered and as a precaution both shelters have been closed off.
"Police Scotland is checking CCTV footage to help establish when the damage occurred and if possible the cause, however an initial site inspection showed no visible impact damage that would be consistent with being hit by an object.
"Our council has been in contact with the manufacturer/supplier to arrange a repair which will be carried out next week."
