Scottish Borders Housing Association staff step up action

Maintenance staff employed by Scottish Borders Housing Association (SBHA) are to escalate their industrial action.

A meeting of members of the Unite union unanimously agreed to impose an overtime ban from Monday.

They have also told SBHA management that a work-to-rule, already in force at weekends, will now also apply on weekdays.

The action follows a vote by the union to pursue "industrial action short of strike action".

The dispute with the association's management centres on moves to introduce new terms and conditions for SBHA's manual workforce.

The housing association says the changes - which would see staff on site at 08:00 rather than leaving for their first call - offers a better service to tenants.

However, Unite claims members would be forced to work an extra three-and-a half hours a week without pay.
