Former Queen of the South, Morton and Gretna player Ryan McGuffie has admitted assaulting a man outside a Dumfries pub in October last year.

The 34-year-old, who has been playing in Australia, punched victim Graham Neish on the head causing him to fall.

Dumfries Sheriff Court was told Mr Neish suffered bruising and a broken collar bone but had since recovered.

Sheriff George Jamieson called for background reports and deferred sentence to 28 October.

McGuffie has been playing with St Albans Saints in Australia but returned to Dumfries for his court appearance.
